Josie's natural talent and powerful 5-foot-11 frame, inherited from her former hockey-playing mother, gave her an edge in the water. Her paddling ability, honed through water polo, made her virtually unbeatable. 'No one can out-paddle her,' her mother proudly stated. This superpower, combined with her competitive spirit, has led Josie to dominate the Santa Cruz Scholastic Surf League, winning first place in every event and the overall individual title.
